Fathers VoiceUK

Privacy

Plain English, because you shouldn't need a lawyer to understand what happens to information about your children.

We don't store your case

Your answers and uploads aren't kept on our servers.

Your files are never public

Uploads are read to draft your document, then discarded.

We never see your card

Stripe handles payment. We only learn that it worked.

What we won't pretend

To draft your documents, an AI provider has to be able to read them. So while your uploads are never stored, never public and never sold, they are sent to that provider to be processed. We will not claim that "nobody can ever see your files" — that would not be true, and you deserve to know exactly where your information goes before you decide to use this.

Who we are

Fathers Voice UK is a tool that helps parents representing themselves in the family courts of England & Wales. We are the data controller for the information described below. You can reach us at hello@fathersvoiceuk.com.

What we collect, and why

Your answers to the free assessment — including your role as a parent, your children's ages, current arrangements, court stage, what you're seeking, and any safety concerns you tell us about.
Why:
To generate your personalised guidance. Your answers are sent to our AI provider to produce the plan, and returned to your browser.
Lawful basis:
Consent. You choose to answer, and you can stop at any time. Where your answers concern health, sex life, or alleged criminal offences (for example domestic abuse), we rely on your explicit consent, given when you submit the questionnaire.
How long we keep it:
We do not store your answers on our servers. They are held only in your own browser (for up to 7 days, so a position statement can use them), and you can erase them at any time with the 'Forget them now' button or by clearing your browser data.
Documents you upload to draft a position statement — court orders, correspondence, the other party's statements, and any evidence you choose to attach. These may include police, CAFCASS or social services records.
Why:
To read them and draft your position statement.
Lawful basis:
Explicit consent, and the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims (UK GDPR Article 9(2)(f)) — these documents exist for your court proceedings.
How long we keep it:
We do not store your uploads. They are held in memory only for as long as it takes to produce your draft, then discarded. They are never written to disk or shared publicly.
The case details you type for the court heading — the names of the parties and of your children, case number, court and hearing date.
Why:
To build the formal court heading on your statement.
Lawful basis:
Explicit consent, and the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.
How long we keep it:
Not stored on our servers. Held in your browser only while you use the tool.
Your email address, if you ask us to email your plan, or when you buy a document.
Why:
To send you your plan or your purchased documents.
Lawful basis:
Consent (for the plan) and performance of a contract (for a purchase).
How long we keep it:
We do not store your email address. It is passed to our email provider to deliver the message, and to our payment provider to send your receipt.
Payment information.
Why:
To take payment for documents you choose to buy.
Lawful basis:
Performance of a contract.
How long we keep it:
We never see or hold your card details. Payment is handled entirely by Stripe. We only receive confirmation that a payment succeeded, and the email address you gave at checkout.
Technical information — your IP address, browser type, and pages requested, recorded automatically in server logs.
Why:
To keep the site running, secure, and to diagnose faults.
Lawful basis:
Legitimate interests — running a secure, working service.
How long we keep it:
Held in our hosting provider's logs for a short period and then deleted.

Who else handles your information

We use these companies to run the service. They process data on our instructions, under contract. Some are outside the UK; those transfers are covered by the safeguards in their agreements with us.

We do not sell your information, and we do not use it to advertise to you.

Information about children

This service is for adults. But by its nature you may tell us about your children — their ages, their names for the court heading, and sometimes safeguarding concerns. We treat that information with particular care: it is not stored on our servers, it is used only to produce the guidance or document you asked for, and it is never shared beyond the providers listed above.

If you're worried about someone seeing this

Because we keep your answers in your own browser, anyone with access to your device may be able to see them. If you share a device, or you think someone monitors it, use the "Forget them now" button on the position statement page, or clear your browser history. Think carefully before asking us to email anything to an inbox someone else can open. If you are in immediate danger, call the police on 999.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can:

  • Ask us what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy of it.
  • Ask us to correct anything that's wrong.
  • Ask us to delete your data.
  • Withdraw your consent at any time — simply stop using the tool and clear your browser data.
  • Object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use your data.
  • Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, or on 0303 123 1113.

Because we don't store your case, there is usually nothing for us to find, correct or delete — it's already gone, or it's in your browser where only you control it. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@fathersvoiceuk.com.

Changes

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If the change is significant, we'll say so clearly on the site.
